Chemical inventories status
There are a number of countries that have chemicals inventories. This is essentially a list of all chemicals either manufactured in, or marketed in a particular country. Any chemical not appearing on the inventory is considered a ‘new chemical’. Usually before it can be marketed, manufactured or imported into a country, substantive data must be submitted to the authorities to have it included on the inventory.
Chemicals are often assigned unique numbers which act as chemical identifiers and assist industries in determining which materials are listed on which inventories. The chemical inventories of some countries also include information on the amounts imported or produced, as well as the applications. Any deviations to this may require submission of new information to the authorities (for example, significant increase in production volumes).
Most inventories are continually updated as new chemicals are introduced. Further information and advice can be provided on request.
